Troy Hyatt

Troy began his Pilates journey seven years ago. At that time, he was practicing martial arts five days a week with vigorous rounds of full-contact kickboxing and heavy bag-work. This constant work took its toll on the body, and Troy found himself with a seriously injured right shoulder. His cousin, a Pilates practitioner, suggested the Pilates method for rehabilitation as she had reaped benefits from it. Luckily, some friends knew a Pilates teacher and Troy booked an appointment. He was very skeptical at first wondering how all these various movements were going to help his injured shoulder. The teacher had studied Classical Pilates in New York and suggested doing at least ten sessions before determining if Pilates was for him or not. Troy took her advice and after about session number six, he started to feel a difference. His shoulder was less painful and he had an even greater range of motion. After ten or so sessions, Troy resumed his martial arts practice and to his surprise found that he was performing better: had more stamina and endurance; could kick harder and higher; best of all, the shoulder didn’t bother him any more. Troy was hooked. Since then, he has continued studying Pilates and can’t imagine living without it. He has studied with many teachers (including East Bay Pilates) and has found that Classical Pilates is the best for overall strengthening and conditioning in addition to injury recovery and prevention. Inspired by Krisna and Robert as well as his original teacher, Troy chose to pursue the teacher certification in Pilates in order to share with others the numerous benefits this incredible method has to offer. He completed the comprehensive Pilates certification through Power Pilates of New York, studying under Allison Gonzalez , teacher trainer for Power Pilates in San Carlos.

When Troy is not teaching or practicing Pilates, you can find him in Sonoma County where he works for the county office of education, on the tennis court, or in his kitchen. He looks forward to seeing you in the studio soon!
